Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • the submission is my own original work and has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided)
  • the submission file is in .docx or .rtf document file format
  • the text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end
  • the text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines

Author Guidelines

  • the dovetailing of theory and praxis is a fundamental component of our approach to what it means to study liberation. as such, visions of marronnage: journal of liberation studies welcomes a wide range of theoretical and empirical research from emerging and established scholars, including traditional academic publications as well as sonic and visual art, creative nonfiction essays, experimental multimedia compositions, and other artistic works supplemented by an artist’s/author’s statement.

    all submissions undergo a double-blind peer review by two (2) field specialists with scholarly and artistic qualifications.

    

extended gatherings (essays, articles, book chapters) should be approximately 2,500–6,000 words in length

    moments in community (reviews, roundtables, interviews, mission statements, original artistic works) should be approximately 1,000–2,500 words in length

  • submissions to visions of marronnage: journal of liberation studies should adhere to the formatting and reference guidelines listed in The Chicago Manual of Style
  • all submissions should be accompanied by an abstract of approximately 250 words and a listing of five (5) descriptive keywords
  • written submissions should be .docx or .rtf files, not .pdf
  • audiovisual components and multimedia submissions can be submitted in the following formats: mp3, .mp4, .wav, .wma, .au, .m4a, .mpg, .mpeg, .mov, .avi, .wmv, .html
    • all submitted audiovisual and media components must include the appropriate credit and permissions information
